ADVICE
BEFORE SURGERY
At the consultation appointment, your surgeon may have given you preoperative prescriptions. Here are the most common:
- Rinse your mouth with chlorhexidine antibacterial mouthwash the prescribed time (3 to 7 days before surgery).
- Take the antibiotic according to the prescription (3 days before surgery or 1 hour before surgery, depending on the procedure).
- If your treatment involves placing dental implants, do not forget to bring your dental prosthesis.
- You must be fasting (do not drink, eat or smoke) 8 hours before surgery. Water to swallow your antibiotics is allowed.
- Remove the nail polish, if any.
- Wear a short-sleeved shirt.
- You can bring an iPod type player if desired.
- If you have a medication to take in the morning, check with our nurse.
AT THE CLINIC
When you arrive at the clinic, a person will take care of you and take you to the room where you will undergo your surgery. You will be comfortably settled and a small intravenous catheter will be attached to your arm. This catheter will allow us to administer medications that will relax you.
AFTER SURGERY
The usual post-operative advices will be given to you and to the person who accompanies you. You will not be able to drive your car or do any activity that requires vigilance for the rest of the day. Make sure to be escorted home.
